Shahir Kassam-Adams is a Member Advisor of Polus Capital.
Shahir is currently an investor and on the Board of Directors for several privately-owned healthcare and education-related businesses. These businesses include Aileron Solutions, inPractice, OpenQ (a Grotech Ventures portfolio company), and VUCA Healthcare. Shahir is also on the Business Advisory Board for Bertelsmann Business Information.
Until December 2012, Shahir was the Chief Strategy Officer for Decision Resources Group (DRG). He led all of DRG’s business development and M&A initiatives and was on DRG’s Board of Directors. In 2011, Shahir was also the President and CEO of Millennium Research Group. DRG was acquired by Piramal in June 2012 from Providence Equity Partners for $635M.
Prior to joining DRG in July 2007, Shahir was the Executive Vice President for Thomson Reuters Healthcare. He managed Thomson’s $250M clinical decision support businesses and held other senior positions during his five year tenure at Thomson.
Shahir is an experienced entrepreneur and general manager with a strong track record for building new businesses (Multimedia Medical Systems – sold to Superior Consulting and Varian in 1999), growing M&A fueled mid-sized businesses (Decision Resources Group – sold to Piramal Healthcare in 2012) or turning around small businesses (Millennium Research Group – a division of DRG) and large businesses (Thomson Reuters Healthcare Clinical Decision Support – 2005 and 2006).
As a general manager, Shahir has either led or managed M&A transactions valued over $18B ($7B since 2000). Shahir also has a solid record as an investor and advisor to new ventures (Investor and on the Board of Directors for Economic Modeling Specialists Inc. (EMSI) – sold to CareerBuilder in August 2012).
Shahir received his Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University, his Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and his Masters in Computer Science degree from The Johns Hopkins University. He has done doctoral-level graduate work at the Harvard Business School and taught undergraduate and graduate level management and technology courses at Harvard University and the University of Virginia. He is also an active supporter of multiple community organizations and has been a member of several not-for-profit Boards.
